LIVE A CLEAN(ER) LIFE

With the green smoothie trend taking over our internets in 2014, this one is a no brainer. However, it’s a lot easier said than done. Instead of following a clean living lifestyle, try instead a cleaner living lifestyle. Enjoy your Friday evening Pinot. And your Saturday night pizza. But try to eat more greens and cut out the booze from Monday to Thursday.

Here are some helpful tips to help kick off the new year:

Eat more greens. Lifehack list 5 painless ways to eat more leafey vegetables. And yes, one of them is that dreaded green smoothie!

Drink more water. According to research, drinking more water improves your skin, helps you lose weight and prevents headaches. All excellent reasons to drink at least 2 litres a day.

Exercise harder for a shorter time period. Aka High Intensity Interval Training. Work your butt off for 20 minutes a few times a week and you will see improvements. Body + Soul have provided us with a 7 minute workout to get you started.

STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS

Comparing yourself to others is never a good thing. Social media consumes us. Facebook posts of romantic engagements, weddings, pregnancy announcements, and new born happy babies are plastered in our news feeds every day. As a result we question our lives and what we are doing wrong. Why has my partner of four years not proposed to me? Why am I 33 and still not pregnant? Everyone is buying big and beautiful houses except for me….What’s wrong with me?

It’s important to remind yourself that what we are not seeing on Facebook are the heated arguments, the screaming babies, the horror boss that comes with the promotion, the nightmare neighbours that come with the new house.. the real stuff that happens behind the closed doors of Facebook. Stop comparing yourself to others. For the grass is not always greener. Live your own dreams, make your own memories. You will be a happier person for it.

TAKE PLEASURE IN THE PLEASURABLE

Life IS too short. Did you have to say goodbye to grandparents, parents or friends in 2014? I did. And it certainly puts things into perspective. It’s only as you get a little bit older that you get a little bit wiser. So enjoy. Watch the sunset. Take your hair out and drive with the window open. Play with your puppy. Sip your coffee in the morning and actually take the time to taste it. Pack a picnic and take your better half down the beach to eat. Take pleasure in the pleasurable. And you will no doubt have a much more pleasurable 2015.

Let’s start today.

  1. Lovely new blog. I especially love the second to last one. Don’t compare to others. Wisdom right there. Keep the good work going. I really should get back to writing more for myself.
